Reflections on the Full Tilt Poker Smear Campaign
published on 09/21/11 at 4:18 pm With all the “news” coming out about Full Tilt Poker and a so-called “Ponzi” scheme, I felt the need to say something. First, let me start by saying that Full Tilt Poker is a class organization that has treated this organization and overseas bank accounts fairly throughout the years. Howard Lederer and Jesus Ferguson are honest, trust worthy individuals. Not to mention, Rafe Furst, although he did move to Mexico, I can only say his work with charities and the Bad Beat on Cancer have garnered the utmost respect from me. Second, it is a shame to see the U.S. government stick their noses into something that was good for the poker industry, the nation’s economy, and an individual’s self esteem. The majority of players online are terrible and just give money to the lucky few. But these players kept depositing funds into their accounts, helping my lifestyle with a variety of extravagant needs. So what a player did not know about the inner processes of Full Tilt, did not hurt them. They would never have withdrawn funds in the first place. Third, all these dopes posting about a 400 million dollar hole in Full Tilt Poker’s finances, do not know one thing about international finance. 99% of their money is in overseas accounts. To get their money into U.S. accredited bank accounts takes several months, due to the Patriot Act. I believe Mr. Lederer and Mr. Ferguson are just waiting for the funds to go through the proper channels and everyone will be promptly paid. So let us stop slinging the proverbial mud at Full Tilt Poker. We need to let this show trial run its course and in the end, you shall all see that they are innocent of all charges.

The Russian online poker community
1 February 2009 Betfair announced in a Wednesday press release that it has opened its online client to the Russian poker community. On Wednesday Betfair, which boasts of the world’s biggest sports betting exchange, opened it doors to the Russian online poker community. With the emergence of a myriad of Russian pros on tour, the Eurasian nation has become a hotbed for new poker talent.”Up until now, the clients could only view information on the poker client and promotions in English, Spanish, German, and Italian, ” said Bruce Stubbs Head of Betfair Poker. ”However, we are delighted to start offering updated information to our Russian clients.”As of yet Team Betfair doesn’t boast of any Russians, Team PokerStars Pro already had a couple from the Russian Federation in the stable; 2008 Aussie Millions winner Alex Kostritsyn and WSOP bracelet winner and 2007 final tabler Alex Kravchenko. This year, PokerStars added powerhouse Ivan Demidov, who became the first player to make both the WSOP and WSOPE Main Event final tables, finishing in 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Fellow Russian Stanislav Alekhin joined Demidov at the WSOPE final table, finishing as runner-up. The WSOPE was sponsored by Betfair.Full Tilt also has a couple red pros from Russia. Nikolay Evdakov burst onto the scene in 2008, setting a record at the WSOP with 10 cashes for the series. Breaking Humberto Brenes and Phil Hellmuth’s cashing record earned him a deal with Full Tilt. The WSOP women’s champ also plays on Full Tilt. Svetlana Gromenkova moved from Moscow to the U.S in 2002, went pro in 2005 and claimed her first bracelet in 2008, when she captured the Ladies Event title.”The Russian market is a fascinating one and one that continues to produced very talented individuals,” continued Stubbs. ”We saw a very strong showing from this region at this year’s WSOP Europe event which we currently sponsor. We hope that the new Russian client shows our commitment to developing and producing new offerings and hope to announce more in the coming year.”The Betfair announcement comes less than two months after PokerStars announced the formation of the Russian Poker Tour (RPT) The RPT just kicked off their inaugural event in St. Petersburg, a $5,000 that will wrap on Feb 1st. After St. Petersburg, it’s off to the $10K event in Moscow Feb.22-28. OPN Staff All trademarks and copyrighted information contained herein are the property of their respective owners.

Bridging the Realism Gap with Online Poker Just Like Being at the Casino
Bridging the Realism Gap with Online Poker Just Like Being at the Casino Online Poker is uniquely positioned to be the highest growth computer game over the next decade. Now, the emergence of the crucial interpersonal elements at work in live casino play promise to make the online game an unstoppable force well into the next decade and likely beyond. Basically, the cutting edge versions of free online poker with Face Up technology will allow for a player to actually read opponents physical movements and body language. No longer will online poker be in essence a different form of the casino game, but rather will become a more convenient version of it. Moreover, even online poker tournaments are getting more popular than off-line ones. In the last few years, the total revenue generated worldwide by online poker sites has eclipsed 1 billion dollars on an annual basis. With still a great many people in the world yet to get online access, and poker shooting upwards in popularity as both a participation and spectator sport, there promises to be much more excitement for the players and sellers of the online game. One of the persistent criticisms of online poker by some players through the last decade, was that it still felt completely cut off from the casino driven essence of the game. That is, the ability to view your opponent in person has always created the allure of real energy and guile being traded in a subtle cat and mouse game. Many players who came up playing exclusively off-line, and then play online, miss the necessity to read body language, cues, and physical tendencies. Online poker doesn’t lose the analyticaland you might say, odds-dictated aspect of the offline game. But many have said that it is limited to a very robotic and for lack of a better word: computerized skill set needed to excel. As noted in a recent feature on the online game: Online players are required to focus more on betting patterns, reaction time, speed of play, and elements of opponents’ fold/flop percentages, rather than physical reading of opponents’ facial cues, twitches, and even breathing patterns. By some estimates, online poker has brought millions and millions of new players to the game over the last decade by taking away the intimidation of the casino environment and the large percentage of more experienced players found there. Using the online game, players can learn at their own pace with players of varying experience, and do it anonymously without any embarrassment or shame. Still, it might have been the movie “Rounders” where it was said, “if after 20 minutes, you don’t know who the sucker at the table is, it is you.” The game of poker is at it’s best when you can marry the analytical skill aspect with the almost super human power of reading and understanding people and tendencies. Emerging online versions known as Face Up gaming offer the convenience of online, with the most realistic version of the game as it was always intended to be played: face to face requiring the full arsenal of skills from each player.

PokerStars is Now Licensed in Malta
PokerStars has been granted an online gaming license in the Malta online gambling jurisdiction. The online poker site has now been licensed in seven online gambling jurisdictions, including Malta, the Isle of Man, Italy, Belgium, France, Estonia, and Denmark. PokerStars hopes to be granted an online gambling license in Spain too. “Obtaining an online gaming license is an arduous task. It requires significant resources and a willingness to allow detailed scrutiny of company practices and procedures that examine an applicant’s credentials in important areas like integrity, security and attitudes to responsible gaming,” said Eric Hollreiser, the Head of Corporate Communications at PokerStars. He further commented that the online poker company is happy to be put through this scrutiny in order to be granted online poker licenses in the various online gambling jurisdictions in which they wish to offer their well established and popular online poker site. Hollreiser spoke about the benefits to players and the uniqueness of being licensed in so many online gambling jurisdictions, saying: “We’re happy to submit to this, though, when there’s a clear benefit to players, the industry or our company. In particular, as far as our players are concerned, we believe that each new license we obtain underscores the reasons why they should feel comfortable playing with us. We don’t know of any company in our industry that has been licensed by as many jurisdictions as PokerStars.” The most recent of these online gaming licenses was granted to PokerStars by the Belgian Gaming Commission. The announcement followed soon after the Belgian government declared that they had plans to block any unlicensed online gambling operators in their country. “We are delighted that with the great efforts and cooperation of the Gaming Board we have been able to become fully regulated in the Belgium market,” said Jean Christophe Choffray. Choffray is the Head of Online Gaming at the parent company of PokerStars, Circus Groupe.

The November Niners
The November Niners Now that the last remaining players to compete on one of the most famous, one of the most prestigious and definitely the one of the richest sporting event in the world, are completed, its time to learn a bit of them and have a taste of what could happen in the poker table come November. Dennis Phillips Dennis is a 53-year old truck driver from St. Louis, Missouri. With 900 grand in his pocket and a shot for couple of millions more, expect this humble but eager tournament amateur to slug it out against the established veteran of the trade. Ivan Demidov Ivan is a professional poker player from Moscow who cashed in on three events and landed on the Main Event finals. Surprised as he was, expect this soft-spoken online poker hotshot to twist the tables around in November. Scott Montgomery Scott is a Canadian resident who has the killer combination in WSOP – a big bankroll and lots of experience. For those who tune in other tournaments, you’ve probably seen Scott in LA Poker Classic in 2008 where he finished fifth with almost 300 grand. Peter Eastgate Peter is a 22-year old poker player who hails from Denmark. But make no hasty remarks about his age because this young player is one of Denmark’s recognized online professional players since 2005. He cashed $10,000 dollars in for a chance at the felt table, and what do you know, after much of the 6,800 heads are gone, one of the youngest player this year is sitting on the poker table this November. Ylon Schwartz Ylon is a chess player who has been gambling for 25 of his 38 years. He has made his living out of playing poker for several years, and he has no plans of stopping right now. He was the player who has the most number of cash-in in WSOP event with 12. Should he win, expect him to be out of sight for sometime because this New Yorker plans to escape to where you least expect him to be. Darus Suharto Canadian Darus Suharto is set to follow the footsteps of an unknown accountant who shocked the world how number crunchers play poker. An Indonesian-born residing in Toronto Canada, expect Moneymaker-incarnate try to turn an $80 investment into multi-million dollar prize money. David Rheem Probably the most famous of the nine, David “Chino” Rheem has made several previous appearances in WSOP final table. This 28-year-old professional poker player has been playing poker since he was 18. With fear set aside and Lady Luck in place, Chino is ready to take on the final table challenge. Craig Marquis This 23-year-old poker player hailing from Arlington, Texas is the one who beat Hamrick’s AJ out of the tournament with pocket queens. Expect Lady Luck to flutter around this young poker player, especially when you realized he was just playing poker for 18 months. Kelly Kim He maybe a wee bit shorthanded when it comes to bankroll, but don’t expect him to back out just yet. A California-based business analyst who traded his portfolio for some chips, he has four months worth of time to think about how to make his narrow way to victory this November.

Larger payouts – online poker as seen by a college student
1 February 2009 The world of online poker has drawn those who are compelled by the online poker competition and the potentially large cash payouts that can be won. Mike Brinker from the US is an online poker success who used his cash winnings to gain independence and survive.Mike has won more than $9,000 playing online poker. Mike turned to online poker when faced with a choice that confronts millions of college students every year: stay in school or get a job.Mike played online poker as well as being drawn to the poker tables in Las Vegas. Additionally he owns a poker table placed in his basement to keep check of his poker skills.During his college years he was a dedicated online poker player as well as being a regular at live games around the campus. He tells ”I played a cash game my sophomore year where I wiped out everyone by the end of the night, Starting with $40, I left with $620.”Essentially it is the social aspects that drew Brinker to the live games, yet he claims that ”the Internet is typically the source for larger payouts.””The thing with online play is not everyone is a broke college student,” Brinker said. ”Some of these guys are $100K a year job holders. He doesn’t care. He’ll buy in for $100, lose it, and bet in for another 100. Those are the best tables to sit at. You get in a hand with someone like that and make $100 in however long it takes to get Ace King over Ace Queen.”Mike is from academic background, both his parents having medical degrees. They did not agree with poker playing. However with $9,000 in his pocket made from online poker, Mike was able to gain his own independence. The popularity of the poker game, specifically No Limit Texas Hold ‘em is apparent in the success of online poker sites and televised poker games. A national survey indicated that almost 10 percent of men aged 18 to 22 gamble online at least once a month.

Black Friday Saves One Player’s Money & Relationship
published on 04/23/11 at 8:54 am One person who will be saving money after Black Friday, is Steve “Street3” Carse. Known to have wasted thousands of dollars on online poker sites, the recent federal take over of Full Tilt Poker will have a positive effect on Mr. Carse’s financial statements. Angel Valdez, of the Online Poker Team, fires some questions at Oklahoma’s number one degenerate. How much money have you saved since Online poker got shut down?I transferred my last $80 on FTP to Angel to bet on black at the casino. He informed me that I lost. So, I would have naturally deposited another $50 and in turn, ran that up to around $55, then lost it all. Then I would have reloaded again. I would guess since Friday, I have saved around $450. But, since I don’t have online poker anymore, i am extremely bored and have since spent over $1500 on various illegal endeavors. Those intruders in their homes have names? Some call them Kids, and others call them Mom/Dad/Honey…Honestly I am scared to death about what this question means and wonder how much meth the interviewer has inhaled to come up with such a psycho question. I live with my girlfriend Kelly and I have not seen any intruders in my home. When they stepped outside did the sun melt off their skin? Did they get the vampire effect?Again, another scary question that makes about as much sense as a gaggle of coked up geese selling cookies to gimps. Is their ability to make money playing online poker myopia equal to lets say Charlie Sheen thinking he’s normal?I don’t know what myopia means and I’m too fucking lazy to google it. Charlie Sheen has Goddesses, cocaine, no teeth and millions of dollars. I have Kelly, teeth and tens of dollars. You tell me. Why is chicke nmeth so addictive, especially among online poker players?A bit of history, Chicken meth was introduced in Arkansas by Jeremy Allen. It’s a combination of meth, chicken shit and feathers. It gives one the ability to 5bet shove 73o into AA and see a 773 flop. Or at least that’s what chicken meth benders will trick your mind into seeing. On the evolutionary poker scale, where would you place IBGPN?I would place him at the bottom of the scale. Somewhere between a single celled organism and tadpole. While he can swim with the sharks, he’s often overlooked as his bank roll rarely goes above the $1 mark. His most frequent sightings have the word (OBSERVER) after his name. I just had a cup of tea and a grilled cheese sandwich. Comments? You must be gay or British.

Strategy with Kristy: Andrew Seidman Discusses His Book, Easy Game
November 03 2011, Kristy Arnett Related Articles Strategy with Kristy: Andrew Robl Discusses Televised Cash Game Hands Strategy with Kristy Podcast Part 2 with Tommy Angelo Strategy with Kristy Podcast Part 1 with Tommy Angelo Share It Tags Poker Strategy, PokerNews Strategy, PokerNews Podcast, Poker Strategy Print Andrew “Balugawhale” Seidman was the premiere guest on the Strategy with Kristy podcast and has come back to discuss topics in his updated, re-released book Easy Game. Here is a snippet from the interview: The first thing that we have to realize at any given time is that our hand is always going to fit in one of these three categories: low value, medium value, or premium value. Premium just means that it’s good enough to raise for value. We don’t need to raise, but it’s good enough to. So, obviously aces are always good enough to raise for value preflop. A hand like jacks, whether or not it’s a good hand to reraise for value preflop would depend on a lot of things. Against a really tight player who only opens the nuts preflop, then we probably don’t want to reraise jacks, but against a crazy maniac person we do. We can actually see the beginning of how these value categories might change depending on a whole bunch of different circumstances like our stack sizes, our opponents, everything. What we find is that, if we’re not in premium value, and we can’t raise for value, then do we have enough value to play our hand? That would put us in the medium value. So let’s say we’re up against a huge nit, we have jacks, and he opens. We think, “OK, we’re not in premium because I can’t raise for value, but do I have value to play my hand? Yes, I can flop a set, so I’m in medium value.” Now, if we go one step further, we might say, “My hand is not quite good enough to be in medium value because I don’t think it has enough value to call.” Let’s say I have a hand like eight-five suited and a regular raises. It’s sort of on the borderline between medium value and low value. If we decide it’s low value then we can’t continue by calling because we don’t have enough value to capitalize on and we can’t raise for value ourselves. So, we have to either fold our hand, or we could bluff with it. We don’t lose any value if we have to fold our hand at some point in the hand because we were planning on folding it anyway. I’m going to tie this back now to polarized and strong ranges (depolarized ranges). When we want to create a strong range, we don’t raise any of our low value hands, we just fold all of them, and the premium range becomes very wide. So now, jacks is clearly premium, king-queen is premium, ace-nine is premium half the time. The medium-strength hand ranges become a little bit more narrow and a little bit weaker because most of the higher end of the medium-value range is now considered premium value because we’re choosing to adopt a strong range. On the other hand, if we want to create a polarized range, our medium-value range gets very big. Now, our premium range is very small and there are only a few hands we’re going to raise for value, and we have as many low value hands as we do want to raise. Want more?

Strategy with Kristy: Andrew Robl Discusses Televised Cash Game Hands
October 27 2011, Kristy Arnett Related Articles Strategy with Kristy Podcast: Olivier Busquet Discusses Tough Spots Strategy with Kristy Podcast Part 2 with Tommy Angelo Strategy with Kristy Podcast Part 1 with Tommy Angelo Related Players Share It Tags Andrew Robl, Cash Poker, High Stakes Poker, Lex Veldhuis, PokerNews Podcast, PokerNews Strategy, Poker Strategy Print Andrew “Good2cu” Robl is known for both his cash game and tournament skill. He’s played in a number of televised cash games, and the cameras have caught plenty of interesting hands for viewers to discuss. For this edition of Strategy with Kristy, Robl sits down with Kristy Arnett to discuss a few of his most-talked-about televised cash-game hands. To view the hands as they played out on television, check Arnett’s latest blog post. Here is a snippet from the interview, in which Robl discusses a hand from High Stakes Poker [game details and action of the hand are written separately]: Game Lex Veldhuis straddled to $1,600. Phil Ivey raised to $7,000 from the cutoff. Robl had on the button and called. Patrik Antonius looked down at in the small blind and reraised to $30,400. Ivey folded. Robl moved all-in for $113,900 and Antonius called, making the pot $299,600. Why did you decide to flat Ivey’s raise? I mean, I could have raised. I just didn’t want to reraise and have Ivey four-bet. I’d be in a tough spot and not really know what to do. It’s kind of a hand where I don’t really want to get it in if I three-bet, but I don’t want to fold either. It’s also very deceiving if I flat there. You wouldn’t normally put me on this type of hand when I flat. You said that it’s kind of hard to put you on this type of hand since you flatted on the button so Antonius’ move kind of looks like a squeeze. Were you thinking that he might do this with a pretty wide range? Yeah, I mean, Antonius is a good enough player that you’re never going to really know exactly what he has when he reraises one time. It’s not like he’s going to have a super-tight range of hands. He and Ivey were super deep. So, he’s not going to be reraising strong hands like ace-jack and ace-ten offsuit because it would get him in trouble playing deep with Ivey out of position. I do think he reraises with a lot of hands, though. Once he reraises, there’s already like $50,000 in the pot, and I only have another $100,000 left. You continued playing in the game after losing this pot. How do you, personally, recover and continue playing well. I don’t know. I’ve played a lot of poker. Sometimes you lose. Sometimes you win. I definitely wasn’t happy, but things like this have happened to me a lot in my poker career. There’s no reason not to play your A-game and give money away after that.
